Unitree’s ‘Superman’ robot tops trending charts with 2-meter jump

Unitree unveild on August 17 unveiled a new humanoid robot dubbed “Superman” just two days before the Hangzhou-based unicorn is set to list on Shanghai’s STAR Market.

The robot, which quickly became a trending topic on social media, can jump 2 meters from a standstill and reach a top speed of 12.66 meters per second, or about 45.6 km/h.

The timing is noteworthy. Released on the eve of Unitree’s IPO on August 19, the launch looks like more than a demonstration of engineering capability. It also functions as a high-profile technology showcase for investors.

Another ‘Usain Bolt’ or ‘Christopher Spell’?

With legs measuring 0.85 meters, its 2-meter standing jump surpasses the 1.7-meter Guinness World Record set by American athlete Christopher Spell in 2021.

Its top speed also exceeds Usain Bolt’s average speed during his 100-meter world-record run.

Unitree said development of “Superman” took just over three months and that the robot has yet to reach its performance ceiling.

The launch follows another milestone. In April 2025, Unitree’s H1 humanoid robot reached 10 meters per second, setting a world record and approaching Bolt’s peak speed.

Less than four months later, “Superman” has pushed the benchmark higher again.

Why it matters globally

For the global embodied AI industry, however, the bigger question is whether increasingly impressive physical capabilities can translate into economic value.

Chinese robotics companies are getting better at making robots run faster and jump higher. Nevertheless, investors may ultimately be more interested in whether they can work better and more precisely.

As robots begin to approach or surpass human physical limits, the next challenge is no longer simply what they can do, but what useful work those capabilities can actually deliver.
