- New system cuts manual sealing time by 75%, speeds container exports
- Real-time data matching improves accuracy, traceability for small goods shipments
Yiwu Port, a key export hub for small commodities under Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, has introduced a new smart customs clearance platform developed by Hangzhou Customs, Zhangjiang portal Tide News reported today.
This enables instant container inspections, reducing manual sealing time by about 75%. The platform aims to streamline trade flows and enhance port efficiency.
The port handles around 2,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) daily, peaking at over 4,000, with more than half destined for transshipment.
Yiwu is the world’s largest wholesale hub for small commodities, connecting millions of vendors with global buyers.
The upgraded clearance system integrates business modules, optimizes functions, and consolidates data, allowing for automated, near-real-time transshipment operations that significantly shorten manual processing times, Hangzhou Customs said.

By comparing customs declarations and transshipment forms with actual logistics data in real time, the platform reduces errors and ensures shipments are verifiable, traceable, and fully compliant.
“Even containers needing clearance at midnight can meet their sailing schedule, which is a huge convenience for freight forwarders and exporters,” said local customs broker Jiang Meiling.
Officials at Hangzhou Customs said the launch marks a step forward in trade facilitation and national security, with plans to further develop “smart logistics” and optimize export workflows.
Moreover, authorities look to strengthen collaboration across port customs to provide efficient, secure, and intelligent clearance services for small commodities.
