Geely-backed Caocao targets 200,000 autonomous cars under AI overhaul

  • Ride-hailing operator unveils RoboX strategy spanning robotaxis and autonomous delivery vans
  • Hong Kong chosen as first overseas market for autonomous mobility push

Geely-backed ride-hailing platform Caocao Mobility (曹操出行) said it is embarking on a company-wide AI transformation and plans to deploy 200,000 autonomous vehicles by 2030.

This pivot comes as it seeks to evolve from a ride-hailing operator into a broader physical AI mobility platform.

The company unveiled its new RoboX strategy at the 2026 International Automotive and Supply Chain Expo in Hong Kong on June 18, outlining plans to build an intelligent transportation network spanning robotaxis, autonomous delivery vans and other self-driving commercial vehicles.

‘Dual 100,000’ plan

Under a so-called “dual 100,000” plan, Caocao aims to deploy 100,000 robotaxis and 100,000 autonomous delivery vans, or robovans, by the end of the decade.

“AI is moving from the digital world into the physical world, and transportation services such as mobility and logistics will become critical infrastructure in the AI era,” Chief Executive Gong Xin (龚昕) said.

“The core of the RoboX strategy is turning vehicles into execution terminals for intelligent agents,” he explained. “We want to build a physical AI operating network that connects digital intelligence with the real world and enables AI to serve real-world needs.”

RoboX strategy

As the primary commercialization platform for Geely Holding Group’s RoboX initiative, Caocao said it will focus on three pillars: autonomous driving technology, purpose-built intelligent vehicles and AI-powered operations.

The company plans to work with Geely’s broader industrial ecosystem to develop customized autonomous vehicles for different transportation scenarios.

Beyond robotaxis and autonomous delivery vans, the strategy also covers applications including autonomous buses and trucks.

AI-assisted operation

On the operations side, Caocao is developing an intelligent dispatch and management platform called CaoCao Robo OS.

The system is designed to handle everything from demand analysis and supply-demand matching to service fulfillment, while allowing AI agents to interact with and coordinate transportation resources.

To support the shift, the company said it has streamlined its business portfolio this year, scaled back non-core operations, established a dedicated AI division and launched a global search for a chief AI officer.

Caocao said its ride-hailing business continues to grow, providing financial support for the transition.

Revenue reached 20.2 billion yuan ($3 billion) in 2025, up 37.7% from a year earlier, while adjusted net profit turned positive for the first time in the fourth quarter.

Hong Kong as a springboard

The company also announced a strategic partnership with Geely-owned Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group (吉利远程新能源商用车) to accelerate deployment of autonomous delivery vans, including the Shen-Tong T6 model.

Separately, Caocao said it will launch robotaxi operations in Hong Kong, making the city the first international stop in its RoboX expansion as it explores autonomous mobility business models outside mainland China.
