Siemens, Alibaba join hands to accelerate industrial software transition to cloud

  • Collaboration aims to expand cloud-based and AI-driven industrial solutions for local clients
  • Shift paves way for AI-driven smart industrial solutions like Siemens’ Workflow Canvas

Siemens has partnered with Alibaba Cloud to bring its core industrial simulation software, including Altair One and virtual simulation tools, to the cloud service run by the tech titan, Chinese media reported.

The tie-up marks a significant step in the transformation of Siemens’ industrial software for the Chinese market.

The collaboration will offer Chinese customers computer-aided engineering (CAE) capabilities delivered via Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).

The move accelerates Siemens’ digitalization and smart upgrade efforts in China, allowing companies to access advanced industrial software tools more efficiently.

It also sets the stage for further integration of Qwen—Alibaba’s large AI model—with Siemens’ Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, pushing the boundaries of industrial digital software and AI-powered upgrades.

Simulating a smarter future

As one of the leaders in the global industrial software market, Siemens’ comprehensive software suite spans industrial design and engineering, PLM, simulation and testing, manufacturing and operations, industrial AI, and low-code development.

Altair One, part of Siemens’ digital industrial software portfolio, offers a massive suite of simulation tools and solvers used across high-end engineering industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing.

Siemens and Alibaba Cloud have already collaborated closely previously, with some of Siemens’ key cloud and AI platforms deployed on Alibaba Cloud.

At the 2025 Yunqi Conference in Hangzhou, Siemens showcased its AI-driven smart robot, Workflow Canvas, which allows engineers to create flexible production lines and industrial IoT applications through simple dialogue, significantly lowering the barriers to adopting industrial AI solutions.

This partnership represents a pivotal moment in the growing collaboration between global industrial giants and cloud service providers, propelling industrial software into the cloud and making AI-driven automation more accessible to companies across China.
