DEEP Robotics begins China robot certification for quadruped machines

  • Partnership aims to help Chinese robots meet domestic and overseas market standards
  • Move signals growing industry focus on safety, reliability and global compliance

DEEP Robotics (云深处科技) has begun the certification process for its full lineup of robotic products under China’s national robot certification system, marking a broader push by the country’s robotics industry toward standardized testing and global market compliance.

The agreement was signed on May 15 during the 2026 Hangzhou International Embodied Robot Scenario Application Competition between DEEP Robotics, Shanghai Robot Industry Technology Research Institute and Zhejiang National Robotics & Intelligent Inspection—Zhejiang’s authorized branch of the national robot testing and evaluation center.

At the center of the partnership is China Robot Certification, or CR Certification, a national robotics certification framework introduced in 2016 by Chinese regulators including the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Development and Reform Commission.

The system is regarded as one of the world’s few state-backed voluntary certification programs specifically designed for robotics products.

DEEP Robotics’ Lynx M20 Pro quadruped robot will likley become the first product in the company’s portfolio to formally begin the CR certification process.

“This is the first quadruped robot in China to launch CR certification, which makes it especially meaningful for us,” said co-founder and CTO Li Chao.

The certification goes beyond a basic product approval process. Similar to Europe’s CE marking and North America’s NRTL certification systems, the CR standard evaluates robots across areas including safety, electromagnetic compatibility, reliability and functional safety, helping products meet both domestic and international market access requirements.

Under the agreement, the three parties will also collaborate on embodied AI datasets and robotics industry standards, including work related to humanoid robots.

The partnership will provide integrated testing services covering China’s CR certification as well as international systems including CE and NRTL standards.

The arrangement could allow DEEP Robotics to complete multiple certification processes through a single round of testing, reducing both time and costs associated with entering overseas markets.

Industry participants increasingly view certification systems as part of a broader market trust framework that could influence procurement decisions, industrial deployment and overseas expansion.
