Momenta, Stellantis-backed unit to develop ADAS for Peugeot, Jeep

  • The partnership will bring Momenta’s R7 world model to new production vehicles in China, Europe and other markets
  • The two companies will jointly develop and calibrate driving functions for both electric and plug-in hybrid models

Chinese autonomous-driving heavyweight Momenta and Dongfeng Stellantis Automotive Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. (DSAT) have signed a global strategic partnership to jointly develop advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) for Peugeot and Jeep vehicles.

Under the agreement announced September 24, the two companies will use Momenta’s R7 world model to develop advanced driving-assistance features for new production models, with vehicles planned for China, Europe and other global markets.

The partnership will cover both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid models, with the first vehicles expected to launch from 2027. Planned applications include urban driving and off-road scenarios.

Lyu Haitao (吕海涛), general manager of DSAT, called the agreement the company’s first strategic technology partnership since its establishment.

“This marks two ‘zero-to-one’ milestones: the start of Peugeot and Jeep’s intelligent-driving journey, and the first step toward developing technology in China for the global market,” Momenta CEO Cao Xudong (曹旭东) said.

A new model for DSAT

DSAT was formally established in August 2026 by six shareholders, including Dongfeng Motor, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile Company (DPCA), Stellantis and three Wuhan-based state investors, with combined registered capital of about 8.2 billion yuan ($1.2 billion).

Known in Chinese as Shenlong Automobile, DPCA was established in 1992 as a joint venture between China’s Dongfeng Motor and France’s Citroën, which later became part of the PSA Group before merging with Fiat Chrysler to form Stellantis.

DSAT was created in August 2026 as a major restructuring of the Dongfeng-Stellantis joint venture, which has operated in China for 34 years but struggled in the country’s fiercely competitive auto market in recent years.

Its stated strategy is to develop technologies in China for global markets, with Chinese partners focusing on electrification and intelligent driving while Stellantis contributes brands and global distribution.

Momenta launched the production version of its R7 world model at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026. The system uses pretraining, closed-loop simulation and reinforcement learning to help driving systems predict how road conditions will evolve and make decisions without relying entirely on predefined rules.

Joint development

The latest partnership is focused on joint development rather than simply supplying a technology package.

The companies will jointly define driving scenarios and calibrate the systems on vehicles, with Momenta’s technology adapted to the different characteristics of Peugeot and Jeep models.

For Momenta, the partnership also provides a route for its driving technology to reach overseas markets through Stellantis’ global brands.

The deal highlights an emerging role for Chinese AI companies as technology providers for global vehicle programs, rather than suppliers serving only the domestic market.
