Alibaba ranks among world’s 20 ‘most innovative’ AI leaders, list shows

  • Alibaba named among top 20 global AI leaders by Fast Company.
  • Qwen and full-stack AI ecosystem underpin its 6th-place ranking.

Alibaba Group has been recognized by US business magazine Fast Company as one of top 20 global AI leaders.

The publication ranked Alibaba among 20 global tech companies that have made remarkable bets on AI in the “2026 Most Innovative Companies” list, released on March 25.

Placed 6th in the chart under the Artificial Intelligence category, Alibaba found itself alongside global AI titans such as Google and Anthropic. It was the only Asian company honored.

Explaining the reason for including Alibaba, Mark Sullivan, a senior writer at Fast Company, wrote that “as Asia-Pacific’s largest cloud provider and the world’s fourth largest, Alibaba has released more than 300 AI models spanning text, image, video, and audio generation.

“The company says Qwen has been downloaded more than 600 million times, and has spawned over 170,000 derivative models. More than a million developers use Model Studio, Alibaba Cloud’s platform for building and deploying AI apps using Qwen,” Sullivan added.

In a company post on X.com, Alibaba said that “the recognition highlights our full-stack AI capabilities, anchored by the Qwen model family, and our vision of serving as the ‘operating system of the AI era.'”

The Yangtzeer reported earlier that Alibaba has established one of the industry’s most integrated full-stack AI ecosystems, spanning the infrastructure layer — self-developed AI chips and the Asia-Pacific’s largest cloud services — to the business and consumer-facing model and application layers consisting of Alibaba Token Hub, Qwen, and “Model as a Service” (MaaS) offerings.
