Chint deepens Alibaba Cloud partnership to embed AI across operations

  • Agreement covers AI models, cloud infrastructure and overseas expansion as energy firms accelerate digital transformation
  • Qwen-powered applications to support photovoltaic operations, equipment management and supply-chain optimization

Chinese energy conglomerate Chint Group (正泰集团) has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Alibaba Cloud, extending years-long collaborations to include AI large models, cloud infrastructure and international business operations.

The agreement, announced on June 8, reflects growing efforts by traditional energy companies to deploy AI across generation, storage and grid operations as competition shifts from hardware deployment toward intelligent management of energy assets.

The two companies have worked together since 2017. Chint’s distributed solar subsidiary, Chint Anneng (正泰安能), has already migrated its application systems onto Alibaba Cloud, supporting the operation of more than 2 million residential photovoltaic installations.

Signing of the agreement

The partners are also preparing to launch a customer-service AI agent for residential solar power stations based on Alibaba’s Qwen large language model.

Industry-specific models, AI agents

Under the new agreement, Alibaba Cloud will provide cloud computing infrastructure and Qwen AI capabilities to support the development of industry-specific models and AI agents across Chint’s smart electrical equipment, renewable energy and smart home businesses.

The companies said AI applications will focus on areas including electrical product development, supply-chain optimization, photovoltaic plant operations and maintenance, and energy asset management.

Alibaba Cloud will also become Chint’s preferred infrastructure provider for overseas projects.

Leveraging its global cloud network spanning 31 regions and 101 availability zones, Alibaba Cloud will support Chint’s international smart-energy and electrical equipment operations with cloud services and regulatory compliance capabilities.

Expanding footprint in energy

The partnership comes as Alibaba Cloud expands its presence in China’s energy sector. Alibaba Cloud is positioning its Qwen models, cloud platform and AI agents as tools for energy companies to build industry-specific models, automate maintenance, improve forecasting and optimize grid operations.

It also expects AI to create opportunities for energy providers to expand beyond electricity sales into computing services.

In Zhejiang alone, the cloud behemoth, which dominated China’s infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) market with a 32.8% share in 2025, has also established strategic partnerships with Tianneng Holding Group (天能控股) and Delixi Electric (德力西电气), a joint venture between Delixi Group and Schneider Electric.

Chint Group traces its roots to Leqing Qiujing Switch Factory, a low-voltage electrical equipment workshop established in July 1984 by founder Nan Cunhui (南存辉) and several partners in Leqing, a county-level city governed by Wenzhou.

Over the past 42 years, Chint has grown from a low-voltage electrical equipment manufacturer into a diversified energy group spanning power generation, energy storage, transmission and distribution.

The company is now a leading player in residential solar and operates in more than 140 countries and regions.
