Zhejiang’s Tongxiang partners with local industrial champion to build auto parts hub

  • Project aims to anchor supply chain around skateboard chassis and engine technologies
  • Smart-vehicle test city deepens push into integrated automotive ecosystem

Tongxiang city in eastern China’s Zhejiang province today signed a strategic cooperation agreement with local industrial player Sensteed Hi-Tech Group to jointly develop an automotive components industrial park.

This move comes as regional governments across China are intensifying efforts to strengthen next-generation vehicle supply chains amid the ongoing electric transition.

The framework agreement will combine the city’s industrial infrastructure and testing scenarios with Sensteed’s manufacturing and technology capabilities to attract upstream and downstream suppliers.

The ultimate goal is to leverage the supply chain synergies, establishing a clustered automotive ecosystem centered on skateboard chassis platforms and engine technologies, according to the agreement.

Officials in Tongxiang, governed by Jiaxing, said the project aims to build a distinctive, high-value auto parts hub anchored by complete industrial-chain integration.

Sensteed Hi-Tech (SZ.000981), a Hangzhou-based advanced manufacturing group focused on the new-energy sector, operates across semiconductor materials, advanced packaging, high-end automotive components, vehicle manufacturing and mobility services.

In the first nine months of 2025, Sansteed posted revenue of 2.42 billion yuan ($350 million), slumping 26.76% year over year, company disclosure says.

Vehicle-road-cloud integration

Tongxiang, best known as the permanent host city of the World Internet Conference in nearby Wuzhen, has emerged as one of China’s first national pilot cities for vehicle-road-cloud integration.

The city has opened 47 test roads stretching about 200 kilometers and has issued demonstration permits to four leading intelligent connected vehicle technology companies, including Zelos, Neolix, Cainiao Guoguo, and Desai SV Automotive.

The region has already attracted more than 60 smart-vehicle industry chain companies and over 200 supporting enterprises.

In 2024, firms with annual main-business revenue of 20 million yuan and more in Tongxiang’s intelligent automotive sector generated output exceeding 27 billion yuan.

Together, they form a full ecosystem covering vehicle manufacturing, key components, software development and vehicle-road coordination technologies.
