Qwen AI enters Hongqi smart cockpit, pushing AI from screens into real-world tasks

  • In-car deployment marks expansion toward full-scenario AI assistant.
  • System enables multi-step travel planning through natural voice commands.

Alibaba’s Qwen AI assistant has been integrated into Hongqi’s intelligent cockpit system, marking a step toward moving AI assistants beyond digital interfaces and into real-world task execution, according to an announcement released today.

The deployment follows Qwen’s earlier expansion into AI-powered smart glasses and represents a move into the more complex automotive environment, as Alibaba advances its vision of an all-scenario AI assistant.

The system is expected to debut in the Hongqi HS6 PHEV, a SUV model, allowing drivers to complete multi-step requests through a single voice command.

Users, for example, can issue a request combining navigation, dining preferences and scheduling constraints in one sentence.

The system interprets multiple intents simultaneously and generates a full itinerary by factoring in real-time traffic, weather conditions and merchant availability.

Powered by multi-intent recognition and complex route-planning capabilities, Qwen breaks down vague natural-language instructions into coordinated tasks handled by cloud-based multi-agent systems, which then trigger vehicle-side applications for execution.

Hongqi, a major Chinese automaker, plans to expand the cockpit’s capabilities by incorporating additional Alibaba ecosystem services, including instant retail, ticket booking and mobility offerings, gradually extending the range of in-car services.

Automakers increasingly view vehicles as a natural platform for AI assistants because drivers rely heavily on voice interaction while managing complex, decision-heavy travel scenarios — with their hands on the wheels.

The in-car environment places higher demands on AI systems’ ability not only to understand requests but also to act on them continuously.

In recent months, Qwen has added a growing suite of task-oriented services — including food delivery, movie ticket purchases, ride-hailing and travel bookings — as Alibaba pushes toward AI systems capable of completing real-world errands rather than simply providing information.
