The newly created major is part of a wave of new AI-related disciplines introduced under China’s 2026 undergraduate program catalog released by the Ministry of Education in early May.
The city identified three priorities for the coming five years: open-source AI, embodied intelligence and institutional reform.
Under the agreement, the two sides will jointly develop infrastructure spanning data centers, AI model services and computing platforms.
The launch comes as embodied AI startups face mounting bottlenecks around fragmented computing resources, limited access to training data and a lack of standardized testing environments.
Industry observers said his departure could signal entrepreneurial ambitions, as investment in embodied intelligence accelerates.
