Leapmotor said the local assembly setup in Gurun will shorten delivery times, reduce supply chain costs, and improve competitiveness while better aligning the model with local demand.
Leapmotor delivered a cumulative 173,658 vehicles in the first five months of the year, still well short of its full-year target of 1 million units set at the start of the year.
However, local authorities attached strict conditions to the sale. The company must also invest at least 2 billion yuan in the project over the next five years.
The company delivered 71,387 vehicles during the month, up 73.9% from a year earlier, marking its highest monthly total on record.
Momentum picked up after the launch of the A10, an entry-level compact model introduced on March 26, and the early release of the flagship 6-seater SUV D19 on April 16.
The turnaround was driven largely by the launch of the A10, a 100,000-yuan ($14,530)-class all-electric SUV unveiled on March 26.
Exports to the European Union rose about 70%, shipments to ASEAN markets increased 1.4 times, and deliveries to Latin America surged more than sixteenfold.
